We are all living in challenging times. Over the last few months, many of our lives have been changed immeasurably by the coronavirus pandemic. We will, in time, see normality return to our lives but, for now, we must continue to do our part individually in order to help everyone.
The railway has been providing a service to those who must make essential journeys during this time. Capacity has been reduced across the entire network and, on Monday, many operators are beginning to increase the number of services they operate. Once social distancing is taken into account, capacity is substantially restricted (to only 10-15%) even if a full service was restored.
A few months ago, ScotRail became the first passenger operator to release their train service allocations to RTT. When this launched, RTT showed train lengths on the simple location pages and Know Your Train on the service information pages.
There has been a substantial increase in users using the detailed mode on mobile devices in recent weeks. I have made a minor improvement has now been made the detailed location pages to add the carriage count where it is available. You can see this on mobile devices in a small box in the top right of each service and on the right hand side for larger devices.
This change is being made now to help provide a quicker view of train lengths for those who really need to travel and to help with social distancing.
